SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT MITIGATION

COPPADES is working through this program in three VDCs namely Khudi, Ghanpokhara and Simpani. This project is implemented in partnership with Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) Inc through a Canadian Hydropower Company SCPHI and Lamjung Electricity Development Company (LEDCO). This project is the replication of the activities carried out under SAGUN project as the experience was built up over the implementation period. The project provides information of the various aspects of hydropower industry and its impact on local communities. Through consultation with local communities COPPADES has launched several programs to mitigate negative impacts of the project on the local communities. Various trainings, information sessions, and social development programs are implemented to build local capacities around the Khudi Project. Activities carried out under this project are various trainings and consultations to establish to build a good relation between contractors, project developers and community people to sort out issues of contention and find ways to mitigate them. Further Health volunteers are trained and made active in providing reproductive health services, HID/AIDS awareness, reducing infant mortality rate, and improving sanitary conditions; Local businesses are enhanced through training on business operation and other enterprise promotion services; Waste Management Training Program implemented to manage waste; training for seasonal and off-seasonal vegetable farming training to the people; training on savings and credit and co-operatives to the organizations and women groups around the project locality to make them capable for managing their Saving and Credit and Co-operatives efficiently and transparently; youths of project affected are have got vocational skill training; and a wide range of training on house wiring, welding, plumbing, and carpentry, bar bending etc are provided enabling people to get employment in the project during construction.
